An Act for more effectually amending,
widening, and keeping in Repair the Roads from the East End of the Town of
Chard to the South End of West Moor, and from the West End of the Yeovil
Turnpike Road through Ilminster to Kenny Gate, and from the West End of Pease
Marsh Lane to Horton Elm, and from Saint Rane Hill to
Ilminster, and from White Cross to Chillington Down,
and from a Place called Three Oaks, over Ilford
Bridges, to Old Way, and from The Cross Keys to Catharine Wheel, in the Parish
of Ashill, in the County of Somerset. [7th April

There are 42 miles 1 furl. of road through 27 parishes – all repaired by
the trustees (except 3 miles 3 furl.)

The road from Dirston’s Corner to the Cross in
Hinton St George was introduced into the Ilchester Act on an understanding that
the trustees of the Crewkerne Roads would effect an improvement between Hinton Cross and Crewkerne for which they had
a power, and which would open up a better communication between Ilminster and
Crewkerne; the Crewkerne Trustees did not exercise their power; and the
Ilminster trustees have improved their old road, Some years ago application was
made to the trustees to repair this branch; they intimated that repairs by them
would be followed up by the erection of a gate – the application has not been
repeated.
